Well this was a nice surprise!

Maroon has been doing these amazing redesigns of Brainiac 5 on tumblr and I showed them the fic I wrote about Earth-27B's Legion, the Vanguard of Tomorrow. I was gonna ask after I knew maroon read my fic if they would do something of Scholastica V, so imagine my delight when they already did something!

Scholastica V is the, of course, the fifth in a series of technologically augmented women who've had their intellects boosted. The first and second Scholasticas were created by the machine minds of Colu as an experiment to see if they could create a human as smart as them. The experiments didn't exactly work because Scholastica I and II were both adult women; the first turned into a supervillain because of the damage done to her mind, the second a fascist.

Scholastica III was created when the Coluan machines decided to abduct an infant child and convert her. They replaced her with a Durlan shapeshifter as a nod to the old Earth legends of changelings. The third Scholastica turned out as her creators intended, but she then surpassed them by creating Scholastica IV to see if she could do their experiment better.

Unfortunately, Scholastica IV proved too smart for her creators and she usurped III as well as the machine minds of the planet. She expanded the experiment by abducting people of all ages, genders, and species, converted them into machine hybrids and watched how they would act as a society. Over time she grew power hungry and feared the free will given her "Children" and planned to convert the entire galaxy, if not the universe, to obey her thoughts.

The girl who would become Scholastica V escaped Colu and sought the help of the Vanguard of Tomorrow to prevent her "Mother" from enslaving the universe. When IV was defeated, the new Coluan society elected the girl as Scholastica V as their representative to the world outside their planet.

Scholly is close friends with Veil and Ultimadien, and would eventually become Ultimadien's lover. While analytical and seemingly standoffish, Scholly doesn't have the ego normally present in Brainiac 5 counterparts since individuality is a concept she's still not really accustomed to. When the Vanguard has their big Holiday Elf party at the end of the year, everyone looks forward to the punch Scholly whips up for the shindig. She changes the recipe a little every year, and she does it because it simply makes everyone happy.
