1920s Illustration from a Blue Book story (attributed)
by Leland Roger Gustavson (1899-1966)
6 x 10 in., crayon and pastel on paper

The person I got this from was “about 90% sure” that his was a Gustavson drawing because of the other Gustavson material that it was stored with (the paper used, the drawing materials matched the signed others). But the front and back are clear, so it might be that it was never used.

In 1920, Leland Roger Gustavson opened his own advertising studio in Chicago. He drew black and white line art for newspaper advertising.

During the 1920s his illustrations appeared in Chicago-based magazines and The Chicago Tribune, as well as Liberty Magazine.

This illustration is typical of his work done for Blue Book, a Literary Magazine, in the 1920s.
