Fantastic!

This is hilarious. You know, I've often wondered in cases like this one, what the hell was the editor or art director thinking when they selected this artist to hand in a cover for a Horror magazine. I understand they were on a small budget and hiring someone willing to work cheaply was paramount, but it's like they didn't even try. There were countless artists looking for work back then, plenty of them willing to work for cheap or even for free just to get their foot in the door. Are we supposed to believe there wasn't ANYONE they could get in touch with who could actually draw horror characters in a scary style? I mean, this guy was clearly only suited for Hanna Barbera type monsters!

He's actually one of my favorite artists! I love his paperback covers as well. He worked for many, many years on bondage publications, magazine covers, LP record labels, and paperbacks (tons of adult publications) and one of the few african americans to work in this field. He painted more of these Eerie publications covers than any of their other artists. These comic mags were the most influential horror comics for my childhood way more than Eerie and Creepy! And, they are super rare. All but twenty or so were destroyed by the publisher's wife and a friend of mine owns over half of them, so not many out there. I will be listing a bunch of his paperback covers eventually.

Awesome.  I don't think Ruben gets what they are all about.  The style is perfect for the magazine and probably wonderful to see in person. I love this one.

Thanks! It is great looking and vivid in person. His covers for these Eerie Publications were very cartoonish but also very gory. Maybe in a way it was easier to sell them to kids without being too serious looking. I know when I was growing up during this time, I loved these covers when I was buying them off the store shelves!
