Liliane & Fred Funcken - Echec Au Roi Page 6

I've said it before: I love the precision and storytelling skills of Liliane and Fred Funcken who managed to tell highly enjoyable stories with a level of historical accuracy rarely matched in Comics...

The Chevalier Blanc/White Knight adventures are my favorites of theirs and, as they've been properly reprinted a few years ago, I can only recommend reading these. It's a wonderful way of retrieving one's child soul!

I had already been lucky enough to unearth 2 interesting period pieces from "Echec Au Roi", one of the best Chevalier Blanc stories, namely an ad announcing its forthcoming publication and a frontispiece illustration for the same. As I was commenting then, I was only looking for a full page from that story to be completely happy...

Well, now it's done!

And what a page it is!...

A tournament page, full of memorable scenes: while the prince and the Chevalier Blanc engage in a tension-fraught discussion, heralds announce the fight and the 2 knights clash violently. Then the prince takes our hero to meet his future opponent, appropriately the villain of the piece. All this amidst a fantastic array of weapons, flags and costumes. The last panel alone is worth the price of admission!
