Description

Always intended to get a piece from Berni's Frankenstein Alive Alive! directly from him, but somehow something else always seemed to prevent it. Sometimes it was something else by Berni himself and other times it was something else, but I put it off because I thought I'd have plenty of time. His untimely passing shows very concretely how short life is. While I unfortunately didn't get to acquire it from him, I did get it from his wife Liz and I'm very glad that I did so.

One of the last pieces done by him before he passed and it shows his absolute mastery of the form. Like one of his idol's Roy G. Krenkel toward the end of his life and career, Berni here shows us the synthesis of his life long artistic learning - a master of light and shadow of composition and mood with a looser but no less potent style than the original plates done decades previously.

I'll be treasuring it for many decades to come I'm sure. Thanks Liz!

Beautiful piece, congrats! I like Wrightson's take on Frankenstein as it was far more like the image conjured up by Mary Shelley and drawn by Theodor von Holst who did the first book image for the 3rd edition back in 1831. You can see the engraving in my CAF collection.
