DescriptionOne of my most treasured comics as a kid was X-Men #121. We were at the local coffee shop/greasy spoon when one of the regular patrons saw that I had a stack of comics with me. We talked a bit about them and then he asked me the year and month I was born, May 1979. He asked my folks if he could drop by later on with something for me, and we knew him so they agreed. He stopped by and gave me this! I've kept that same issue all these years, and even recently acquired a copy signed by everyone involved in making it. The only thing I couldn't get was the original cover art! I have a friend who knew Bob Layton and mentioned that he does cover recreations if he either worked on it or if the original artist is no longer with us. Unfortunately Dave Cockrum had already passed, but Bob agreed to take this on as a commission piece. I loved Bob's work from X-Men all the way through his Valiant work, and he's just a nice guy to boot, so I was thrilled to have him recreate this piece for me!Social/Sharing |
