I remember going to a big comic multi-day con in Atlanta back in the early 80s that had a movie night wherein they showed an episode from the old 1943 Batman serial. At the time, I (and perhaps most of the audience) did not realize it was so blatantly a work of anti-Japanese WWII propaganda, so, when Batman uses the word "Jap" when he confronts the big baddie, J. Carol Nash in Asian makeup, it caused gales of laughter to ring out throughout the theater. I laughed so much my stomach hurt. Since moving to Japan 30 years ago, I've gone through different phases and had lots of different reactions when seeing art from these old anti-Japanese WWII comic stories of this era, but it was not until I read the title, "Bergs of Banzai," that I laughed as hard as I did back in that long-ago Atlanta theater. Cheers!

I should have also mentioned that Kubert's half-splash image of three Japanese baddies clinging to that iceberg is equal parts awesome and hilarious.
