Age of Ultron #5, pps. 14-15

Okay, sure, of course - one always has the raindrops on roses and the whiskers on kittens, but to that list of favorite things, I need to add: Bryan Hitch, Brian Michael Bendis, killer architecture, and even killer-ier robots.

(And it’s always a good idea to play it safe in the face of the upcoming A.I. overthrow and stock up on pages to impress our inevitable robot overlords!)

A spectacularly insane orgy of depth, detail, death, and entrails here as Ultron sentries literally rain destruction down upon an unsuspecting human populace.

Ultron’s frozen, maniacal, inhuman grin is a classic design that -always- rates very high on the “creepy” scale, but here in this context it reaches new and extreme levels of savagery and horror.

Bryan’s ability to capture a wider-than-widescreen level of destruction on the page is deservedly legendary (he’s a true Authority, one could say) and showing Ultron’s new world (dis)order from near and far allows Bryan to serve this story beat with the whole damn drum kit.

From the city skyline in the far background to the architectural details of the buildings closer to the camera (and the acrid black smoke at all levels!) this thing just… rocks, plain and simple (although neither “plain” nor “simple” are adjectives I’d use to describe it…).
