DescriptionMy introduction to comics was Captain America 212 which kick started my life long admiration for Kirby. That particular issue ended with a significant cliff hanger: Cap blinded by one of Zola’s mutants, the Red Skull running amok, and the world around them ablaze in an apocalyptic hellfire as only Jack could depict it. I missed the following issue when it hit the stands - trades didn’t exist and acquisition of back issues though the direct market was little more than a fantasy for the limited resources of a six year old - when a family friend gave me a small stack of comics for my seventh birthday. Right at the top was this issue. I don’t remember any of the other comics from that day (actually I’m pretty sure Iron Fist 14 may have been one of them) but this is the only one that mattered: Jack’s penulitmate Cap book. Although Jack’s 1970’s Marvel output is always compared unfavorably to his 1960’s output, it will always hold a very special place in my heart - his Cap run in particular - as some of my favorite comics ever.Social/Sharing |

Awesome!!! That's one of the best Kirby Falcon images I've seen--so cool!

The description write up confirms this cover found the right home. Glorious Kirby cover art.

I agree one hundred percent on the quality of Kirby in the '70s. Maybe not as balanced as FF circa 60, but massively powerful and distinctive. Excellent example!

Can’t beat a great piece of art that doubles as a piece from a book that got you into comics. Your excitement is clear in your description and it’s not hard to see why. Cap cover by the King?! Yes, please! Sincere congrats!

"... Jack’s 1970’s Marvel output is always compared unfavorably to his 1960’s output ..." - Not with me, it isn't! When my wife and I bought our house in 1995, I took one room as my drawing and collecting room, and I went on a quest to buy every book Kirby did in the 1970s. The guy at Eides Comics and records in Pittsburgh looked at me like I was insane, and said he'd have to blow the dust off them, but he sold me a complete bagged set of Jack Kirby's OMAC. I LOVED Kirby's 1970s work. It was awesome, and this is a magnificent example. Congratulations on your find!

I realize I referenced a DC book, but there is not one single piece of Jack Kirby's 1970s work for either company that isn't awesome. Not one. Your cover is a perfect example. I fell in love with the Eternals the moment I saw that giant hand on the cover of issue #11, "The City That Died Twice!" I bought all of those as well. Devil Dinosaur, anyone. 2001 A Space Odyssey? Brilliant.
