Description

Art from the story "Every Man a Fort", published in the November, 1970 issue of G.I. Combat. This was one of the most important comics that I ever bought. I always seemed to have an interest in war and mystery comics but they were off limits when I was very young. I'd look at the war covers in the house ads of a DC superhero comic and wish that I was reading that comic instead. When I was eight, I was finally allowed to buy war comics. The second comic I bought on our annual August trip to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina was this issue. It told the story of the Haunted Tank's origin and Russ Heath's art knocked me out. Until then, I had never given any thought to who the artists were but I now sought out his work. Nearly fifty years later, I'm still looking for it.
