DescriptionSpecial thanks to Steve Morger for selling this to me. And on top of that, he donated the money to Saved Whiskers Rescue Organization! Wow!Though I don't have pages from issue #1, at least I have from #2! Pencils by George Perez. Inks by George Perez and Bill Wray. An attempted diamond theft leads to an aerial battle in London between Raven and Phoenicia! This page is the "origin" of Phoenicia! I remember George telling me that he based her and her belly dancing on this wife. It's 1984, and most comics are between .60 cents and .75 cents. I'm 14 years old, and see in the comic store T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents with art by George Perez. I'm amazed. I'm in love. The art is beautiful. The paper just makes it better. I can't believe how great it is! And then, my stomach drops. It's $2.00. I expected it to be $1.25 like Legion of Super-Heroes Baxter Paper and New Teen Titans. But $2.00? I couldn't afford that. I was only making $20 a week working 10 hours a week at the florist (what do you want, cheap Italian kid labor ;-). I'd have to give up a baxter comic and a regular comic or 3 regular comics. ARGH! But I couldn't resist. I asked the florist if I could work an extra 2 hours that week for another $2. He said yes, so I got to buy it. Yes, I went from working for $2 an hour to $1 an hour for the overtime. I was 14, and didn't think, I just wanted the comics! Of course, I had to ask to work another 2 hours the following month to get the next issue, and it goes on. But WORTH IT! Social/Sharing |

Great page, and I really enjoyed your story too. Just goes to show, if you want something badly enough, there is always a way.

Your description of what you had to do to get the comic shows briefly and vividly how addiction begins. Lol. Glad you got the artwork. I note you did not say what you had to do to get the funds to buy the original artwork. Whats the going rate for working at the florists these days? It must have gone up considerably.
