Description

Say Hello to my latest "acquisition". His name is KIRBY. He is an American Dingo (a.k.a the Carolina Dog). Now 6 yrs old (as of 3-29-12) and 86 lbs. he's climbing mountains and swimming in lakes. The shot on the left is him at 4 weeks, upper right 2 months, center 6 months, lower right full grown.

The Carolina Dog was discovered and named by Dr. I. Lehr Brisbin, a biology professor at the University of Georgia, at the United States Department of Energy's Savannah river site in South Carolina. This is a remote area from which the public have been excluded, and wild dogs that have lived there for centuries have had little opportunity to breed with domestic dogs. Brisbin noted that these dogs were almost identical in looks to the Dingo. Other scientists observed that the Carolina Dog's bone structure was very similar to the remains of Neolithic dog bones from Native American burial sites thousands of years old.

This breed is thought to be a direct descendant of the ancient pariah dogs that accompanied Asians across the Bering Strait land bridge 8,000 years ago.

Hey Len (fellow sycophant), what a great looking dog! I'd never heard of an American Dingo before (thought Dingos were only Aussie residents) - very cool! I have a Australian Kelpie and a Border Collie/cross.

Beautiful scenery & dog! A real cutie! I love all animals, especially cats & dogs. I own a beautiful gentle giant myself/ mainecoon cat named Zeus. If you check out my gallery or type in Zeus you can see him there. All 20 plus lbs oh him. They act very dog like & are super intelligent as well.
