I've seen the name Sandro Cleuzo during my animation fandom without knowing a great deal about him.
Stephen Silver announced the opening of
Sketch Alley Artist Originals and I found beautiful examples of his work. This drawing shows Dr. Facilier and the frog version of Prince Naveen. By Facebook messenger, Sandro reports this is an early drawing during production before he was assigned to do Prince Naveen and the Fenner brother.
Sandro Cleuzo was born in Brazil and taught himself to animate with the Preston Blair books. He worked on local TV commercials until joining the Don Bluth studio to make feature films in Dublin, Ireland. In the Phoenix, Arizona studio, Sandro was a directing animator on my favorite Bluth film
Anastasia (1997). Moving to Burbank, California, he worked on Disney feature films
Tarzan, Fantasia 2000 (the Firebird and Tin Soldier Sequences),
The Emperor’s New Groove (as a Lead Animator), and
Home on the Range (as a Supervising Animator). After working on an unproduced feature film at Disney's Florida studio, he returned to Brazil and worked as a freelancer. Sandro came back to Disney to work on
The Princess and the Frog. The animator spent some time at Dreamworks Animation and other studios. He won an Annie Award for his work on
Mary Poppins Returns. Sandro started doing work as a character designer recently.
