DescriptionCover painting (with painted collage elements) for J.G. Ballard's The Impossible Man, Berkley, 1966. Purchased from Stuart Schiff some years ago. People who knew him say Powers was no respecter of his originals, and thought nothing of carving up old paintings to make new ones, as seen here. UPDATE: Thanks to John Davis, I've learned that this painting includes chunks from the covers of Starshine (Bantam, 1956) and Rogue Moon (Gold Medal, 1960).Social/Sharing |

Interesting piece! I especially like the upper left component to this. Thanks for posting!

I love it! But yeah, too bad some of his earlier pieces had to be sacrificed in the process : (
In this case it appears his cover for Rogue Moon (1960) was the donor. It is also interesting that Powers not only cut the piece up but he also painted over it and made little additions.

Thanks so much, John! Yep, sure looks like it. One of the reasons I joined was to learn more.

Oh, and I just decoded that abstract piece on the right -- it is from Star Shine (1956)!
