So you finally caved, eh? Not surprised, as looking at this, it was only a matter of time :) Loved Bachalo's Hammerhead arc, and this is a great example, and has really got a lot to pore over as you clearly have! Some of my fave pieces are those that include both a nice splashy shot AND some storytelling! And Townsend inks?! Congrats!

Thank you! Very kind words! It's really amazing how far Chris has come as a storyteller, and he started off pretty damned high on the scale innately. The expresssoions of the characers, postures, clothing, even the backgrounds...he uses EVERYTHING at his disposal to push the story, make the viewer feel all-the-more involved, makes a "true believer" of us all. And as he's evolved, so has Tim, in parallel. The "feathering" I believe they call it - the thin-to-thick lines based on hand pressure - and the varying textures he can apply to cloth, metal, brick, pavement, you name it...It's a very happy eye that finds itself looking at their artwork. And obviously, covers and splashes are awesome, we all know that and lust after them; but what is easy to forget is that each little panel is its own actual drawing! I've found myself drawn more to the paneled pages the longer I appreciate comic art, because that's where the REAL storytelling is done.

Absolutely gorgeous! As the mighty K Gearon said, this arc was REALLY great, and the atistic prowess of the team is in full display here, as the emotions of the viewer careen all over the place, from sincere worry ("Oh, my gosh! Spidey is REALLY beat up... How's he going to make it through this?") to downright amusement ("Look at the sprockets popping out of Hammerhead's head! That's pretty crazy! And is that dude peering out from behind the lower stack of panels? Hilarious!") to full-on fanboy ("This combo of artists is one of the best, most unique, ever.").
Wonderful pick up! Sincere congratulations on acquiring a piece you (so very rightly) spent so much time poring over. I can only imagine how many tidbits you've been able to pick out close-up that we still haven't discovered! :)

Thank you! I really appreciate it! You're spot on, what with the detail, the expressions, you name it! The one tiny panel (out of eleven as I count them!) on the right, where poor Spidey is "holding his head on" after getting wolopped...the trash flying from the dumpster when he lands in it unceremoneously. It's got it all! And I love splash pages and covers as much as anyone else, but I've really started to love the storytelling of the paneled pages the "wiser" I get. Chris has had some GREAT inkers during his career, mostly well-matched to the project he's on, but Tim is definitely the guy who brings his art to life the best, at least in this stage. I can say I've spent many an hour looking at this, no exaggeration, and there is so much to enjoy and discover. Thanks again for the kind words - you totally understand too! : )
