DescriptionGiovanni Ticci, illustrazione per Le frontiere del West, Focus storia (testi di Angelo Nencetti). Acquerello su cartoncino, cm 33x46.Giovanni Ticci was born in Siena on the 20th of April 1940. He’s mostly known to comic readers for being one of “Tex”’s historical cartoonist. He debuts in the comic field in 1956 by collaborating with “Studio D’Ami” at the realization of some stories for the international market. Starting from 1960 and for the following six years he works at his friend and colleague Alberto Giolitti (Gilbert)’s studio. He draws western and sci-fi comics for the American market. In 1963 he also draws the sci-fi story “Judok”, published in Italia on Gianluigi Bonelli books. Three years later he is finally stable at the Sergio Bonelli Editore and debuts with on “Tex” with "Vendetta indiana", n. 91 of the series. He keeps working on this character which he always worked on enthusiastically. Ticci draws for “Tex” more than 7.000 drawings and realizes until 2018 87 albos of the regular series other than special albos, some of those have become real masterpieces of the comic. In a very short amount of time he becomes one of the greatest and more appreciated western drawers into the national comic world. In 1995 at Roseto degli Abruzzi he gets dedicated "Un senese nel Far West" which is an anthological exhibition in honor of his long career as a cartoonist. The catalog gets published by “Glamour”. For Angelo Nencetti’s books he realizes the watercolors of the “Diari illustrati senza eroi”, il will be later republished by “Focus Storia”. Ticci is also one of the few drawers who’s able to draw horses without having them in front of him. Thanks to the great technical skill he’s able to draw them by different angles and frames. His innovative way of drawing has been for years one of the main sources of inspiration of other great masters who, over time, have worked on Tex’s character as well. Social/Sharing |
