DescriptionAt Supercon 2006 in Oakland, my brother Stuart and I woke early Saturday morning to line up for Adam Hughes. We were shortly joined by friends John, Eric, and Gene, then made new friends with other AH fans. The wait is long, but bearable by being socialble. A friendly guard let us wait inside the building. Con promoter Steve Wyatt understood all the earlybirds wanted to get on the AH list and helped make it easier for us. Most fans are part of the Hughesfan yahoo group where Adam and his girlfriend Allison keep us informed as best they can. So we understood the place on the list was not the order of completion. As Sunday wound down, we were invited to join Adam and Allison in the bar where the remaining sketches would be finished. Aaron Lopresti and Phil Noto also came up for post-con sketches. Adam concentrated on drawing while Allison played hostess, visiting with all the waiting fans. Many stayed after their own sketch was done to hang out. I showed part of my art collection to Allison who was excited to see my Adam Warren Kiki commission and my two Studio Ghibli Kiki animation drawings. She brought it over to show Adam, explaining Kiki's Delivery Service was one of his favorite animated films and one of the first he showed her. So I asked if he would like to do Kiki instead of my original Modesty Blaise request. Adam says he's never been asked to draw her before. I suspected Adam was a Hayao Miyazaki fan since seeing his Gen 13 swimsuit pin-up where Caitlin has a Totoro beach blanket. Still, I was too unsure to ask for a Miyazaki character on Saturday morning. It turned out to be the last drawing of the night with Adam finishing up after 1 am. Many thanks to Adam and Allison.

This is a real cute piece, BUT HOW COULD YOU SWITCH OFF FROM LETTING ME SEE A MODESTY BLAISE DONE BY AH ? That's just cruel dude !

Wonderful commission from the modern master, AH! Also thank you for sharing your amazing story about the acquisition of this magnificent piece! So good to see it work out, when you shared your Studio Ghibli collection to Allison and AH! shared his love for Kiki's Delivery Service which ultimately landed you a nice commission. Great story and again, thanks for sharing! HUGE CONGRATS!
