DescriptionSome inking and zipatone razzle dazzle from Tim Sale here! An overlay on the band of sorcerers in panel 1, Gus (the gargoyle) in panels 2&3, the “sunburst” background in panel 3, and Isstvan’s sleeve in panel 5 all contribute to a page with some seriously fun visual texture. A lot, but never “too much”!I’ve always been fond of the layout of this page, and how the panels stack and “close in” on the bottom right corner of the page as our heroes make their move and spring their trap (they think) against the evil wizard, Isstvan. The horizontal top panel 1; the left vertical panel 2, the horizontal panel 3, the vertical panel 4 (whose Fantasia ‘Night On Bald Mountain’ reference always cracked me up), etc. I enjoyed Robert Asprin’s Myth books when I was younger, but REALLY loved the comics (due to the additions and narrative changes Phil Foglio inserted into his adaptation, especially towards the end of his 8 issues). They added a richness, depth, and logic to the events that was missing from the original work. This page is from such a sequence, an ‘expanded universe’ page, cameo-ing characters we later meet in other novels of the series and relating the original attempt our heroes made to stop Isstvan’s mad grab for power. Also, tying the Myth stories closer to his own ‘Buck Godot’ work, I was always tickled that a Law Machine (the floating orb with arms in panel 2) had joined in the good fight, present on multiple pages of the story and not just as a single panel gag (which Phil Foglio is deservedly regarded as a master of). So awesome! I was a huge Myth Series fan when I was a kid, and loved the comic book, too. This brings back great memories. Congrats!

The trap is sprung! Love the giant entity with the hammer.
