Big Barda Prelim 01

This is the first time I've tackled New Gods in a commission. The client has been waiting patiently and I intend to deliver within the next few weeks, give or take. This is the preliminary pencils for Big Barda. Etched on 9 x 12" Canson 98 lb paper with 2H Staedtler graphite lead, the composition speaks for itself. I restarted the project because I wasn't feeling the inking I had applied to the original. I also took the opportunity to increase the size of the Darkseid statue in the background. He needs to feel ominous so what better way to convey that than with monoliths in his image? I also used WWE Hall of Famer Amy Dumas aka Lita for facial reference for Barda, garbed in her classic Kirby-designed costume. I also incorporated her more modern weapon embedded in the Parademon's skull in the foreground. More as this develops, as I feel that this will turn out to be an experimental commission, influenced by the fiery atmosphere of Apokalips.
