Description

Michael Cray / Deathblow From a commissioned set of Deathblow pieces. Pen and ink, 9" x 12".

I'd seen Chris Johnson's fabulous TMNT work with clean lines and energetic figure work and I wanted to see how he'd do with Michael Cray. He turned in the most authentic and pitch perfect piece I've seen. His mastery of the chiaroscuro technique blew me away. His Cray is big and bold but where the piece really shines is where Chris didn't embellish. Up close, you can see the outlines of the shapes (renderings of the gun, the bullets and the cans) and then he inked all around it, an homage to the best of Jim Lee and Tim Sale.
