Description

So my pal Craig Yoe has been taking on some commissions via his Facebook page, and as I've never owned a piece by Craig, but have always loved his approach/work, I checked in with him about tackling a Popeye piece. Craig and I share a similar love for old strips and he was pretty durn happy to take on the one-eyed sailor. Craig gave the piece a Rene Magritte/Salvador Dali twist, with some wonderful Surrealist touches. I especially love the ethereal/organic Olive Oyl around the crazy eyeball. I should add that this piece is HUGE, on the order of a Bungle Family Sunday page, for those who have seen one.

Craig did a bunch of preliminary sketches and I especially enjoyed the liveliness of the one in this gallery as an additional image.

But this is a comment: really clever and brilliant! Heeds repeated viewings. Have you noticed Popeye's hair reads "Walrus?" Hmmm ("I yam ... the walrus?")
