Description

This is a giveaway sketch from Alan Jim Hanley that was included when you bought a copy of his Comic Book fanzine. A free-lance caricaturist by day, Hanley could churn out an interesting sketch in record time. Since Comic Book #2 (referred to in the sketch) was published in 1967, and #3 was published in 1968, it's likely that this was drawn in 1967.

Hanley was a key pioneer of the small press, creating some of the first independently produced comic books. In 1966, he self-published Comic Book #1, and 6 more issues were produced of this fanzine through 1976.
