The killing fields

Set in the far flung future of 2014, the United States has been splintered by civil war and everyone is fighting for their own survival rather than an ideology.

"Over the years, Martha has attained a kind of reality for me. Not all fictional characters you deal with do, but I think I speak for myself and [writer/co-creator Frank Miller] when I say that we really do have a sense of knowing Martha as a real person," artist and co-creator Dave Gibbons said in an interview with Comic Book Resources. "I know Frank finds her very comfortable to write and I find her very comfortable to draw, so I think we were on to something.
