DescriptionDetective Comics #812 Cover Original Art (DC Comics, December 2005). David Lapham, who is widely respected for his independent comic book series Stray Bullets, did a year of Batman stories in Detective Comics in 2005-2006, in which he contributed both scripts and covers. The saga of loosely connected stories, which spanned Detective Comics issues 801 - 814 (but interrupted by the "War Crimes" arc in issues 809 & 810, even though that story took place after these events) was called "City of Crime". This is the cover for "Part 10: Pearls and Fine China", where Bruce Wayne forgoes cape and cowl to investigate the mysteries of Gotham's seediest neighborhood, Crown Point. Lapham's cover is symbolic of the surreal nightmares Batman experiences after this visit, surrounded by the faces of Gotham's most desperate residents. The heads spinning around him gives the cover a bit of a ghoulish, mind-bending feel. Created in ink over graphite on 11" X 17" Bristol board.Social/Sharing |

What If: Alfred Hitchcock had written Batman? Really cool! I enjoyed the bit of Stray Bullets I read back in the day.
