Description

Stuart Hay illustrated Weare Holbrook's newspaper columns for years. This particular cartoon-illustration comes from Holbrook's column, "Shuffling the Domestic Deck", which was published on May 1, 1932. This piece features the second illustration in the column, with a cow bellowing at a house. The caption reads, "The cattle began bellowing for water. That was even worse." Lovely ink and ink wash. You can really see Hay's mastery of structure in a piece like this, with his architectural background coming in handy.
