Beautiful page (like all the other gems you just posted)!! You are right - Cerebus was always a pretty singular, unique reading experience, but when Gerhard joined the team (er... Dave) he propelled the book even higher into the creative stratosphere with his impeccable backgrounds artistry.

Having said that, Dave's use of hard blacks in this section of 'High Society' blew my mind when I was reading this as a kid (and it still curls my toes - in a good way! - today), especially when the characters were wearing black garments and parts of them would "melt" into the background (like Ms. Henrot-Gutch's dress in panel 1, Weishaupt's jacket shoulder in panel 4, etc.). It was the first time I had seen anyone do that, and I still love the hell out of the technique. :) Congrats on this incredible batch of pages you just posted!
