DescriptionCLICK HERE FOR THE LINK IN OUR FEBRUARY 2021 AUCTION!14x20.25" Millar Publishing board has approx. 12-3/8x14.75" cut out artboard w/mixed media original art by Pete Millar (1929-2003), illustrator, cartoonist and drag racer known for his work w/CARtoons and DRAG Cartoons magazines. Offered here is Millar's original art for ad to "Win A Free Trip To Bakersfield" that was featured in DRAG Cartoons magazines, originally published 1964 as the title page of issue #4 and going on to be published as the back covers to issues #12-15. It was proposed as the cover to issue #23 but was ultimately not used. Cut out art features frenetic Bakersfield scene, filled w/street rods, drag racers and countless car enthusiasts walking among the cars and exhaust and was originally attached to larger artboard w/large watercolored area at top for promotion text/admission pass. Lower right has 1.75x5" area cut out (not affecting art as this area represents the blank roof of a tent in some publications) w/handwritten "7th Annual Fuel & Gas Championship - Bakersfield" text in text roof area. Top margin has handwritten "Page - 12 DRAG #16" notation at upper right. Larger artboard has attached acetate overlay and comes w/vellum overlay w/attached printed labels noting promotion text for front cover of DRAG Cartoons #23 in which this promotion was to appear w/"Win A Free Trip To Bakersfield" text. This shows obvious aging/wear and just comes along. Larger artboard has some thin strips of tape staining across top margin and corner tip wear and is Fine overall. Art itself remains clean and could be matted and framed for VF display. Comes w/reading copy of issue #15 that this art appeared on the back cover of. From the Archives of Publisher Pete Millar.
