AvX , a lot of people I know hated this event. I thought it was a pretty fitting finale to the storylines that have been running in X-men for a while though. And I am absolutely a huge fan of Phoenix five. Especially Emma and Cyke. Very glad to add this in my collection. A lot of people are not aware , Jonathan Hickman was actually plotting this event . I myself only recently found that and then it hit me why I Love this. It’s another Hickman story and I am a sucker for anything Hickman.

A real beauty of a page, with a dynamic “storytelling” layout and loads of visual flare and compositional style (I know - a real shock from Mr. Coipel :) ). A wonderfully varied visual “landscape” - lots of texture! - to give the viewer a lot to pore over. Ever since ‘House of M’, that sort of blocky “byte” visual (with everything “unmaking” into chunky squares) is a motif that peppers X-events - you know they’re serious when you see it - and panel 2 is super cool. Great panels of Emma and Scott... wow! A keeper, for sure - so many elements showcasing Coipel’s many talents! With this and your great Cheung pages, quite the way to start out 2021! Congrats, man! :)
