DescriptionA high point of zaniness by the inimitable Winky, Noddy and Blinky as bemused Barry Allen and Iris West look on the scene...Now, you may be forgiven not to have these 3 characters engraved in your memory, but it just happens to be the case for me! For some reason, this very improbable trio stuck in my mind and it was very genuine affection that I jumped at the opportunity to acquire a page of their silly exploits. Little did I suspect that this very story would be their unique Silver Age appearance! They had been stalwart comic reliefs for The Flash, back in the Golden Age (and this was way too early for me...) and had been brought back next to Barry Allen at the request of young fan Roy Thomas (yep, the same Roy Thomas). But, while the caption at the end of the story promised future, equally absurd, appearances, they would never be seen again, except for a couple of not-that-funny happenings, some decades later. Negative reader response was apparently the cause for this cutting short of a very promising comeback. It looks like there were no other fans for these 3, except for Roy Thomas... and (belatedly) me! OK, but, was nostalgia the only reason that made me go for that one? Of course, not! The magnificent art of Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella is the real stuff!... The extraordinary elegance of every character, however improbable, permeates the pages of all the stories Carmine Infantino did during this late 50's/early 60's era. Even the rags of our 3 madcaps look like high fashion clothes. And Iris West is, of course, the archetypal stylish blonde lady of the times, oozing class even when doing nothing. Oh, and look at that perilous mechanical assemblage they call the brain! Every line falls in place perfectly and contributes to an eerie sense of balance not found with another artist, I think... No wonder they had to introduce a fashion designer into the stories, so great were the villains' garbs!... Social/Sharing |

Merci Adom! It's true these pages now get to a venerable age, but, since so am I, I tend not to notice.!
