I'm very happy to add yet another page from this GREAT mini series which I absolutely LOVED.

Inter company crossovers can easily and often feel forced with both heroes teaming against both villains or (gasp!) a new threat to both universes. I felt that GL vs Aliens was an obvious and natural fit given the two similar environments the characters respectively evolve in on their own.

What I love about this page is the crushing sense of urgency enhanced by a great decompression in storytelling as well as the overall sense of disgust.

In the first panel, you have Kyle rushing in on his lost ring on the ground with a nasty alien in the background. Who can blame him ? I mean I wouldn't want to face a Xenomorph any day of the week but especially not without a GL ring :) The fact that Kyle seems crushed by the top border adds to the urgency of the scene.

Then we have the 8 panels grid. Kyle notices something on the edge of his vision and can't help but turn his face to it (big mistake !). For me the best panel is the 7th in which Leonardi managed to express his pure disgust of the creature he is witnessing. And it's a space cop who's been around on many planets, solar systems and who has experienced a ton of alien forms. Brilliant.

I always thought that Giger's Xenomorph was dangerous and frightening but the face huger and its egg I find plain disgusting ^^

And then the little shit jumps Kyle and he has to fight it off his face in the last panel. The sense of struggle between the two beings is fantastically rendered here and this last panel full of tension acts as the perfect cliffhanger to make you turn the page. The ring at the far bottom right reminds you how the page began, what Kyle set out to do at its begin but I'm sure he has other things on his mind right now. Or on his face to be accurate.

The overall symmetry of the page also works well to underline the rhythm of it. Two larger top and bottom panels in which the action is quick framing a grid of smaller ones decompressing it second by second. You can almost hear the tick tock tick tock reading this one. Brilliant storytelling from a splendid storyteller.

Great sturdy inks from Perkins really helped Leonardi here as I believe that a looser or more vaporous approach would have resulted in less grounded art which the series needed.

If you haven't read it, seek it out (cheap) as it's a fun sci-fi romp with GREAT art & storytelling.

Why the struggle, Kyle? That poor zenomorph just wants to give you a face hug! I did not know of this series, but agreed, it is a perfect fit. Leonardi really nailed those expressions to make the tension work. Thanks for the intriguing write-up, FM (as always). Giger really captured insect-like elements of disgust while designing these monsters, imo. The slime, the monstrous exoskeleton, the shadowy, quiet actions as they worm around unseen, and that egg laying! I've grossed myself out, but I'm still going to check out the series. Cool page! Congrats!

Super cool page, F M! I’d not heard of this book before, either, but I’m right there with you - one of those natural fits that makes me think, “Why had I never thought of that before?”

And as J H so beautifully put it, the Xenomorph is practically the “full shopping list” of Things That Freak Us Out; stealthy, deadly, sneaky killers with acid blood that only kill you horribly if you’re LUCKY... you may end up dying by incubating their parasitic young and (as thanks) having them explode out of your chest. And how does that egg get planted there? Why, the facehugger, of course, wrapping its tail around your throat, it’s crab-like legs around the back of your skull and just... doing its thing. Ugh! Get out, Kyle!! Get out now!!

Great crossover page here, my friend! Yowza!

Such a great page! And I agree that this was a great crossover. Leonardi's work on this book really shines. Some of his best modern work. Huge congrats!

Great page and great description, F! Love the sequence and I gotta admit that panel 7 is the best as part of said sequence - "Ugh! WTH?!" :) Not sure if I've seen Kyle or amy GL for that manner in a more precarious position! I haven't read the story but this definitely makes me want to check it out! Congrats on a disgustingly fun add :)
