DescriptionJesse Santos was an artist I HATED when I was growing up. But those Dagar stories stuck in my head for some reason. Then, when Heritage started auctioning his art a while back, I at first was like, "Ah, that guy I don't like." But looking at the pages, I found them to be...a lot better than I'd remembered? I think it was a combo of tastes changing as I grew up, and also how the art looks better in black and white than it did in color. Soon, I found I was liking the art enough that I bought a couple of Jesse's pages, and now I really and truly treasure them. Santos is an artist ahead of his time, and certainly ahead of the teenage Paul Tobin. Thankfully, I'm all growed up, now!Social/Sharing |

That's a great story Paul. I have always loved Jesse's art, but for a long time didn't know it was his as the old Gold Key titles never published the name of their artists. I thought (and still think) that his women are gorgeous!

Oh yeah! His women are amazing. I look at it now and wonder why I didn't see it back then! (probably something to do with printing / coloring--the two banes of great artists)
