DescriptionA year before Alan Moore's Watchmen triumph, Mark Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme max-series showed how to use a superhero team to tell a thoughtful geopolitical allegory. In 2004, J. Michael Straczynski had the opportunity to re-use the same JLA-inspired characters in Supreme Power for Marvel's MAX line, which like DC's Vertigo imprint permitted R-rated elements. After eighteen issues, the story continued in the PG-13 Squadron Supreme as a regular Marvel title, albeit still distinct from the 616 universe. A team has coalesced to enact American foreign policy. On this page, a pair of African superheroes warn the Americans not to meddle in countries they don't understand. Social/Sharing |
