I'll admit, I'm not really a collector of cover recreations or prelims. I do kind of like the idea of re-imaginations though, or an artist's unique take on a famous cover. Like Art Adams doing Cap Annual #8 or something along those lines. An homage of sorts. In this vein I commissioned original Nomad inker Mark McKenna to tackle he and Hawbaker's cover to Nomad #4, but asked him to switch out the characters on the cards to some of my personal favorite Marvel characters, specifically Black Panther, Captain America, Wolverine, Warlock, Man-Thing and Moon Knight.
I just like to make it clear when something is not the original and that's why I'm not super fond of recreations.
For fun, I added the stats and made my own Nomad "What If" issue, as he never actually appeared in What If.
My idea here has the Maggia kidnapping baby Bucky, and to save her Nomad is forced to become a hitman and go after a few heroes to get her back... My guess is everything works out in the end. Or doesn't, it's What If after all.

Like those subtlle changes you made, man! And adding BP...you KNOW I dig that :) I agree that cover recreations are better when a more stylized homage-y take by an artist is done, or changing up things so that the recro's got something new and unique to it, like here. Reno Raines...I mean Nomad...never looked better ;) Congrats!
