Description
Sandman 50, Ramadan, was the first Sandman comic I read. Followed by Death: High Cost of Living (bought at the same time), and then I got all the issues from 1 onwards and dived in. This was my first Veritgo experience too. This was all when The Kindly Ones was being published so I was very late to the party.

I've long wanted a page from the issue as people with pages on CAF can confirm, but no luck.

On a whim I asked Wayne, P. Craig Russell's rep, if he might have a page still (yes, almost 30 years later) and unsurprisingly the answer was no, but...would I be interested in a 1:1 recreation of a page of my choosing? That's not normally my thing at all. An artist doing a take on a classic cover they didn't have anything to do with? Yeah, I love the style mixup that brings. But how else was I going to land a page?

I consulted with a friend who had a similar sentiment to me, but made the suggestion of asking for tweaks - so not a recreation completely, but a 2.0 or a revisited page where Craig can flex his 30 years-later artist muscles. I liked that idea, and along with the knowledge that a published page is highly unlikely went ahead and picked the page I wanted and waited. Not long either as I asked at the end of February and did a short drive earlier today to pick it up from him in person.

Pretty cool that artists are willing to do recreations of panel pages!  Quite a choice too.

Superb. Sandman 50 was also my entry into the title (because, you know, P.C.Russell)

I have to say, it's nicer than the original.

This is a great project. Something more unique than a recreation.

Russell's work is so elegant and the way he approached your request was so tasteful.. He really strikes a balance between respect for the original composition and adding flourishes that one wishes would have been present on the original page.

I love this.

Simon, this is absolutely wonderful and a brilliant method of scoring a beloved page you've been after (while at the same time connecting with a fantastic artist and getting something NEW).  The end result is absolutely gorgeous (I think I prefer it to the original); and hearing Mr. Russel talk about it on the video (great touch!) was a lot of fun; I get the impression that he had a great time working on it!  Congrats, man - GREAT choice!

What a wonderful page!  Isn't cool how we all remember how SANDMAN struck us like a ton of bricks the first time we read it.
