Description

It is the story of the squalid life of the two characters, which translates an inexorably negative vision of contemporary life and relationships, told through the use of geometric abstraction. What is striking is not the tone of disillusioned isolation, but the unusual visual choices that Beyer constantly adopts. Amy and Jordan are drawn with two-dimensional heads and above all in profile. They live in a mostly abstract way and in spaces ranging from humid downtown skyscrapers to open views of the American Southwest. In stripes, strange geometric shapes are typically used that are completed with extraneous drawings without any narrative function. The aim is to create in those who read a genuine sense of anxiety. There is no narrative cohesion and the strips have no ties between them. Amy and Jordan are always waiting for something to happen in their lives. The work can be read as a child's nightmare fantasies, a reading reinforced by Beyer's cleverly designed graphic style and only seemingly na�ve.
