Description

This is page 32 from the classic WHAT IF #15 - which was titled "What If... Someone Else Had Become Nova?". It was written by the awesome Marv Wolfman and had 4 stories, each drawn by a different artist.

This is the 3rd story titled, "What If Peter Parker Had Become Nova?", and was drawn by the amazing ROSS ANDRU. This is really cool as ANDRU is famous for his near 5-year run drawing "The Amazing Spider-man" from '73-'78 (from issue #125-#185). So, who better to draw Peter Parker as NOVA than the main Spider-man artist, ANDRU, himself?!?

This is also interesting as when NOVA #1 launched in 1976, the announcement on the cover said, "IN THE MARVELOUS TRADITION OF SPIDER-MAN!" Pretty cool.

Great choice of artist and title. Teenage Nova of today's comics are probably inspired by works like this and Spidey titles that had to liven up sales and charisma with teen leads.

And Andru drew both characters in ASM 171 - nice pickup, I imagine someone had a weak moment to let this one go!

Yes! Thanks for reminder! ASM 171 continued the first NOVA/Spider-Man meetup in NOVA #12! Love all the touch-points!

I only recently discoved this issue of What If or had completely forgotten about it. This is awesome. The page could have been easily from Andru's run on ASM, especially being teamed with what I felt was the best inker (Giacoia) for his pencils during this period.
