DescriptionWonderful page of Part 8: "Misty Island" by Frank Le Gall.An artist between Kafka and Lewis Carroll: This book got a very interesting storytelling and therefor is one of the most unusual french comic book. Théodore embarks on a frenzy surrelistic Journey. Misty Island is, so to speak, Frank Le Gall's "Alice in Wonderland". Plot: Theodor goes on a journey in search of himself. He set off with his boat on a very foggy night. Before he does so, he is warned by the ancient Chinese Confucius about a ghost island in the fog. Theodor sets out anyway, gets caught in a storm and lands on a very strange island. Everything seems a bit surreal here. Except for one attractive young lady, the people have no names, but are named after their occupations, there is a house that is almost inaccessible and, in general, some very unusual things happen. He closes his eyes, opens his thoughts and lets himself get stranded on the island of mist, in the realm of his subconscious. Creation progress: Frank Le Gall explains: "For my part, I have always liked this story and I remember the great pleasure and ease I had with it. A long moment of happiness. As with Alice in Wonderland, Theodor ends up on the other side of the mirror. The mysterious figures that Theodor met on the island are marker stones that offer him a trace. Theodor can run as he likes, he does not approach him an inch, like Alice runs to the peak looming in front of her, but without approaching it." This parallel is also reminiscent of the Kafka Castle. The artists problem: Le Gall: "The big misunderstanding in this story is that lots of the readers believed it was a dream, which led to one of those idiotic stories that disappear when the hero wakes up. Even my publisher Dupuis believed it. But no. The island really does exist. Confucius speaks plain language at the beginning and at the end: This island actually exists, but only in rare moments and only for a few people. However, everyone who has come to this ghost island populates it with their own fantasies and longings and fears. However, the island only exists as a frame for each arriving person and is filled by his subconscious. And Le Gall continues "We should also immerse ourselves in the island of spirits, since they exist". What a beautiful thought. Social/Sharing |
