Description

Well, I dig this bastich a whole awful lot.

The piece helps remind me of a time JUST before sales tax ruined the ability for a dollar to pay for a dollar. And the paper dollar was now a coin. Loonies.

the $0.99 cover was such a perfect simple badass sales effort to match the simple, badass image on the cover. Yes, I admit, it was $1.23 Canadian but I had no idea what kind of discount my grandma got at Value Drug Mart in the deep SE.

The only comic my grandma ever bought me. And I can’t believe this is what stood out to her. I feel like it was an ultimate demonstration of her belief that I wasn’t a little kid anymore, or she felt like she needed immediate intervention to prevent a future Brony.

$0.99. dollar worth a dollar. Bite my lip and call me Lobo.

A comic I still have, and eternally matched with the time I was given the nevergonnagrade floppy. More creases than the folds in my exhausted liver, this copy still takes me back best time of being a kid.

I can think of one other piece that may come close to being the most iconic and nostonslaughtaltic over my 4 decades outside the ether. But this is it. It is it.

I vaguely remember the story, but like great collector who’s name is so meta you cannot deny anything he dares breathe - And Y Be All?- back then it was all about the fraggin’ art.

I carry this piece around the house like it’s the Stanley Cup. Loobs’ has brekky with me, hates whiners and is a great asset at the negotiation table.

I wish someone looked at me the way Loobs looked at it reader on this issue. I know he would feel like he’s looking in a mirror right now….

You clearly REALLY wanted this. Your story explains a bit better why. There are better Lobo images by Bisley but as a guy who is also looking for art from a comic has grandma gave him, this makes sense.

i think this is the ultimate Bisley. His style is perfect for Lobo and he captures the essence of the character, there is probably a part Biz in the in Lobo too. Congratulations

First off, let me just say that your Grandma is a badass. The fact that she chose this issue for you when this was the art on the cover says a lot about how amazing she must be. Second, this really is one of those pieces that defines a collection. I'm so happy that you were able to get this. It landed in the right place! Congrats, man!

Lobo was for L.E.G.I.O.N.* what Wolverine once was for the X-Men: That completely unpredictable badass you were forced to go into battle alongside. Great great cover.

*underrated series IMO

My late grandma used to watch Wrestling religiously.  Once my uncle tried to tell her it was fake, and the next thing he knew, he was in a headlock on the livingroom carpet.  I think she would have liked your grams a lot.  Congrats on this iconic 90's gem.  Nice move on the appropriate change of avatars.  Leave no doubt.  By the way, you should get your grandma's copy of Lobo #1 slabbed.  I'll spring.  Still one Canadian team left in the playoffs.  If the Cup ends up landing up north, maybe you can get a photo of both trophies together.  Raise it high buddy!

That is absoultely mindblowinging amazing! What's really interesting to me is to see that white highlight on Lobo's eye in the actual painting. On one of the occasions I got to spend a little time with Simon at one of his appearences here on the East Coast we spoke about this cover and he said the white highlight on the eye was a printing mistake (??) and that it had been done without his knowledge...but seeing it on the actual painting shows that makes no sense! It seems so perfect to be there anyway. Who knows why he said that lol..Simon is certainly an interesting character for sure..a super nice and funny guy and an incredible artist. Congrats on this fantastic piece!

Nothing better than finding your grail piece...I've honestly had a few. But to (somewhat) borrow your memory...mine involves my father way back when I didn't even know there was a collector brewing in me. It actually took two years for the "true" collector/hoarder to emerge. But my grail was the Kenneth Smith Creepy 41 cover. I still remember the rainy day, jumping out of my dad's car, and running into the newsstand to pick up a comic or magazine. Mad magazine was what I was thinking---but when I saw the Creepy cover, and the cute girl who worked in the shop and called me "honey!!!!", I wanted to prove to her I knew what I wanted and bought the Creepy. I knew where the cover resided for nearly 30 years. The owner knew I wanted it, and priced it accordingly. When it sold to someone else, that person sold it to me for a song (thanks Eric!). It is not my best piece of art---but has the most memories attached to it. Goes well with the Corben story I got! Congrats my friend! you did well.....
