Description

A gorgeous Bryan Hitch flex showcasing a bit of his remarkable range: from raw, elemental, rubble-inducing fury to the pinnacle of the athletic, balletic human form in action, the power radiates off this thing in waves. Flex, Bryan, flex!

As compelling of a read as it was (and it -was-), and with everything ‘The Ultimates’ helped to usher in in terms of both comic and cinematic history, I don’t believe it is an overstatement to say that it was of one of the greatest series in modern Marvel history. I am -very- grateful to have a cool example from it.

I know it wasn’t your first choice to send this away, but thank you for letting me watch over it, Mav.

The power of the Thunder God is full force! I especially love the 2nd panel, great stuff!

Thor smashes!

Now that's a smash, wow!

I too find that despite the wow factor of the first panel that the second one is the best of the page.

Congrats on a great page!

"Balletic" is a great description for that second panel!  Love it, and when I think "Hitch", trust that "Ultimates" and "Ultimates 2" are the books I first think of.  Congrats, man!

This is Thor's aria and he reaches a crescendo with a show of electrifying force and power!

Epic thunder blast!  Yeah, that's not the god of hammers they are messing with.

Who knew contortion could look so good? There's a raw, tragic beauty to this piece that sucks the reader in.  Action at its most elegiac.

Thanks, Steve!  You're right - there's always a real element of contortion to Hitch's anatomy (or rather, the anatomy he draws :) ).  He grounds all his characters in our physical reality, with all the foibles and limitations our bodies have, but then his characters just... don't have them.  "Elegiac" is the perfect word here (and you may win a prize for the first use of it on CAF...? ;) ), describing exactly the feeling of release in that second panel, after the first panel's intentionally cramped and insanely detailed composition.  Visual poetry, as light and space flood the viewer from that second panel.  Thank you again, Steve (and all!) for the comments.

KRAKA-THOOM! This one definitely needed some onomatopoeia. Thor thunder godding away, as he does. Love it (I actually have a Thor tattoo. He's one of my very favorites) That second panel is perfect Thor, too. The thunderbolt and background creating the panel frame is a great choice. Nice score, Jason. Congrats!
