DescriptionMy Hostess ad page! LOVE having this in my collection. I'll say right up front that a few people (like my friend Kurt Busiek) think this is by Ric Estrada, but it definitely looks like it could be Swan and Oksner to me, and it's actually noted as such on the page (I'll drop in a detail of the first panel, where you can see it above the art) And Curt actually did a ton of the Hostess ads, so...I'm considering this is as Swan / Oksner, the way it says on the page.I'm WAY lucky to have this in my collection. Bought it from George Hagenauer a LONG time ago at a convention. He had it in a pile of art, for $50.00. (again, a long time ago) I hemmed and hawed about buying it, and finally decided against it. Went home after the convention and was KICKING myself for not buying it. A whole year of regret goes by, and , amazingly, George still has it the next year. AND I STILL DIDN'T BUY IT. I went home after the convention pissed at myself for not buying it AGAIN. A whole SECOND year goes by, and I go back to the convention, and George STILL had it. This time I did the right thing. Oh, and you might note that although this ad page "stars" Aquaman, he ain't in it at all. Social/Sharing |

There are definitely parts that look Vinny-like, I agree!

I agree re: Colletta. Not really a Swan fan but I do like Aquaman (see also Nick Cardy). In the fifth panel, it looks like Aquaman's face. Although the hair color and costume indicate it's Aqualad. In the 1st panel, Aqua___, whoever he is, references telepathic powers. Only Aquaman talks to the fishes. Aqualad doesn't.

Oh, I hadn't thought about that telepathic powers moment, and now--with the other things you mentioned, I'm wondering if this WAS going to be Aquaman, but then there was some last minute "change him to Aqualad" directive.

Very pretty with Mera and Aqualad! The seahorses and sharks are right out of a textbook. If all problems can be solved by Hostess, the world would be a better place.

Ohh... and except for his very early apperances, Aqualad has curly hair.

It's moments like these that made me finally decide to start loading my collection onto the site: the collective hive-mind of knowledge and discussion. I've had this page for decades but now I'm looking at it in another light!

I love this so much! But I also love hearing the backstory. It's funny how sometimes we talk ourselves out of something and regret it so much. I am glad it eventually found its way to your collection. Huge congrats!

3rd times the charm. Hey, the old cliche was right! These Hostess ads were so great. If only all baddies were so easy to placate! Why so hangry, Darkseid? Have a cherry pie! Thanks for the fun story, too. Congrats!
