Description

Here is an amazing full-page illustration. I believe it to be from Hogarth's last work, Morphos the Shape Changer. He died after completing the first of four issues of this story about a scientist's quest, aided by the ghost of Merlin, for answers about evolution and humanity.

Hogarth was best remembered for his historic run on Tarzan, following Hal Foster (not an enviable task). He was also known as an educator and author of numerous textbooks on anatomy and drawing.

Pieces from Morphos rarely come up for sale, and this one is pretty amazing.

11 x 14. Drawn with gray and brownish-red pencil on card-weight art paper. Bottom right corner is slightly blunted, but is well away from any art.

Signed with his initials, as are most of the pieces I've seen from this book. Undated, though it makes sense that it would be 1995 or 1996.

$1250 plus $20 shipping.
