Description
Risso's Batman has a great noir quality to it with his generous use of shadows and the stark contrast in the blacks/whites - no wonder it looked great when they re-released that trade collection in B&W! I liked this page (from Broken City) for the nice profile shot of Bats of course but the shadow across the Ventriloquist's face in the bottom panel is also worth the price of admission.

The only thing that seems odd in this page is the sweet full figure of Batman.  Seems like it's too good and Bats should be shrouded in shadows like he is in the smaller panels.  This one has it with visuals and storytelling.

hmm you're right!  He probably was like hmm...doesn't work with this light source but screw it - i'm drawing the full lit figure!

This page is so elegant and well-planned. Risso must think in chiaroscuro.

The hands and gestures are amazing.

Nice top splash followed by some equally nice storytelling. Risso's style just flat out works for the Bat-verse. Congrats!

Risso is as noir as noir can get. Beautiful page with the heavy blacks and shadows. Congrats!

That middle panel on the bottom tier was a huge bit of foreshadowing. Congrats!

A wonderful page! The impressive full figure Batman was the inspiration / template for Risso's Black & White Statue. Huge congrats!
