DescriptionGRADUATION DAYThis is a cel (and painted background) from the very last episode GRADUATION DAY (Sept 20, 1997) of the X-ceptional X-MEN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, from the second to last team shot. At this point the animation was done much cheaper and the series lacked any real flavor of the X-Men. But it was still part of an amazing childhood X-perience and I was very sad to see this series end. It’s missing BEAST and the animated flowing capes of Storm and Magneto, since these were the only pieces animated in the long pullout shot. I love having a piece of this particular end of X-Men series history as this series really fed and nourished my obsession of everything X. It’s a fitting piece that has most of the main X-Men characters and checks the box on quite a few items. It’s a huge team shot from a historic run that ends the series. This series ends on quite a sad note, with PROF X being taken away so he might be able to live in some fashion with the Shiar. And Magneto taking up the mantle of leading the left behind team. An odd melancholy feeling to such a fantastic series, but most of these X animated series seem to end this way, so maybe this led the charge. Social/Sharing |

This was the entry point for many who did not read the comics. They rolled deep into the first movie and made it a success. Maybe they moved into reading the comics and into original artwork, or maybe not. The series still remains as one of the most historically significant events in comics as it widened and deepened the reach of influence of the X-Men.

Fantastic cell! My only complaint is now I can't get that theme music out of my head!

Love that you got so many characters here, and so small - meticulous paint job! Nice series ending cel. Congrats!
