Dr. Seuss Rare “Holly Sugar” Large Framed PRINT Advertisement
Dr. Seuss may have been known for his creative Children’s books with zany characters and outlandish whimsical Seussian creatures, but he also generated considerable income from his work in advertising. From bug sprays (“Flit”) to motor oil (“Essolube”) and much, much more, Dr. Seuss art could be seen in magazine and newspaper ads, on billboards, and small store signs for many years. In the mid-1950s, he created a set of print ads for Holly Sugar that included the phrase “All it needs is…” with humorous drawings that could have only come from the hand and mind of Dr. Seuss. This early pieces today are now extremely scarce but offered here is a great example of an in-store sign, with a boy feeding a green apple to a horse with a distinctive look of sour dissatisfaction. The PRINT has been matted with an opening of 19.75″ x 9″, and framed with glass for an overall size of 25.25″ x 14.25″. The print is in Good condition with a vertical fold crease down the middle. Signed in print by Dr. Seuss along the lower edge. Presented double matted, framed, and glazed.
This fun superb piece has enormous presence and would look great anywhere in a house- even in a kitchen!
