Corben was the underground master for fantasy fueled illustrative artwork. The fantastic control of black and white to create the tones through tiny detailed marks was at another level. Every piece had that emotional weight to it. We got to see his intensity firing on all cylinders for Marvel in Hulk Smash and gave us timeless visuals depicting Hulk like an ogre and with much anger swirling within. Hulk has an enormous mass and volume to take up space in all dimensions. This splash shows his annoyance as he spits out a bullet that Banner intended to kill himself with.

Thanks for explaining that what Hulk was spitting out here was a bullet, Marcus. I thought it was a nipple! This is about as in-your-face as comic art gets. There will never be another comic artist like Richard Corben, whose art always made me feel like he was communicating directly from his Id.

Awesome piece. Corben's art has such a presence and the page is not big enough to hold this image within its borders.
