DescriptionJoel Goss and Michael Wm. Kaluta wrote a 23 page prose Shadow story entitled "My City" which was broken up and published across the four issues of The Coil of Leviathan. Kaluta did a spot illustration for each part of the story (4 total). This one was published in issue #2 in 1993. Michael Kaluta is best known for his work on The Shadow for DC back in 1974. He would only revisit it a few times after that with The Shadow: Hitler's Astrologer (Marvel 1988) and The Shadow (Dark Horse 1994) which was published just after The Coil of Leviathan. This pinup was drawn smaller on 6.75 by 9 inch art board, with an actual image measuring 6 by 7.5 inches. This entire piece is all drawn art, including the wording!Social/Sharing |

Excellent illustrative work by Kaluta. It taps into the pulp era from which The Shadow was born and the art accompanying the prose had to be perfect to convey the key point in the story and embody the atmosphere and character.

Really nice love Kaluta illustrations even more than his comic art-unfortuantley don't own any!

Nice page, and seems somewhat Batman-esque, but I can't put my finger on what artist the presentation reminds me of.
