Description

A mesmerizing exercise in sequential graphic storytelling from the hand of James Harren. Zooming in past our fainted protagonist, the camera pulls us down through a rusty, pitted storm grate and focuses on a patch of moonlight reflected in the waters below… just in time to see that pool of light broken by Rathraq’s old body, pushed through the swirling eddies of water and light by a congregation of (gorgeously stylized) alligators. Next the camera pans up to reveal a beautiful Harren setting; its fog, rust, and decay achieved through multiple layers of ink, paint, and zipatone. Just… wow.

I feel very fortunate to add it here, and have to give a big, wet, sloppy shout out J H for the heads up. Thanks, sir, and THANK YOU, Felix!

Conceptualizing this sequence is a feat unto itself. Actually executing on it is what makes Harren a master.

Great pickup! I had my eye on this piece for a while but just never got around to pulling the trigger, lol. I mean, sewer gators! Come on!

The surface above street looks in so much worse shape than the underground. You can see by the outer ink marks which panels needed the extra precise lines as he needed to prep the brush just right with a practice stroke.

The camera zoom from panels 1-3 is awesome. Great backgrounds on Rumble! Love that last panel.

The whole page is a testament to the artist's talent, but that bottom panel is just incredible. I keep looking back at it.

I love all the brush work, of course, but that last panel as a whole is so masterfully illustrated!
