DescriptionWelcome back to Shemp's Art gallery. We are celebrating another birthday this month.Born November 30, 1952. Happy Birthday to one of my all time favorite creators, Keith Giffen! I am a big fan of Giffen's' work. I first saw his work on the Legion of Super-Heroes (5 years later series) and that was it, I was hooked. The art was weird, bold, it had great use of blacks. I read Ambush bug, loved it, same with the Justice League, Dr. Fate, The Heckler (my favorite), Vext (yes I read Vext, it was a funny book.), Lobo, Ragman and Trencher. His ever evolving art was awesome to see. I was a fan of all his various styles. This piece is from early in his career. The back cover to the Comic Reader #164 (Jan 1979) featuring an original character called Starr. The art is beautiful, the luscious blacks and the detail with the white paint all meticulously applied. It's a stunning piece. Bought this past weekend during the closing hours of CAF Live. One of four pieces I bought during the show. My thanks to Michael Lovitz for selling it to me. Happy Birthday Keith Giffen! Thanks for all the laughs. Social/Sharing |

I also read the Heckler and Vext. Giffen can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes. Congrats on this awesome piece!

For a second I thought, "Oh, early costume redesign for Adam Warlock?!" 😄

Hey now, you're an all-star, draw that ink on, go play
Hey now, you're a rock star, get the paint on, get paid
And all that Giffen is gold
Only shooting stars break the rose

Love the original art and love the printed page. Look at all those lovely dots. I will NEVER stop being an ardent fan of the old four color printing process on newsprint paper.
