Description

“The Spirit” TV pilot “Ready for a Fight” concept painting #1 by Will Eisner (1986) (ABC Television Network) In 1986 Will Eisner entered into a deal with Warner Brothers for a SPIRIT pilot that ended up as a made-for-TV movie starring Sam J. Jones that aired in 1987. Eisner agreed to create a handful of watercolor drawings as set guides for the director and set designer. In this frame, The Spirit with a partially torn shirt holds tight fists, anticipating trouble. He’s in a museum festooned with artifacts including statues and knights of armor. (Autographed on the painting's back in Blue Sharpie by "The Spirit" himself, Sam J. Jones and in Red Sharpie by "Ellen Dolan" herself, Nana Visitor.)
