DescriptionThe She-Hulk Lives!Hand painted by Steve Oliff, of Akira fame, at a convention in 1980. Oliff opted, as he often did when coloring original art, to stray from the printed covers palette. Unfortunately, here he also opted to adjust the eyes with white out... A stat of the city skyline, from Shogun Warriors, was added for the final. She-Hulk was also slightly elongated for the final. A thin strip of art of the ribs likely exists somewhere in the world. Social/Sharing |

It's a little shocking to see what the original looks like now and how it differs from the printed cover regardless of the color. It's different but it's still the original. Thanks for sharing!

It was so smart of Marvel to use Big John to launch so many of the new title from this era. Nova #1, Ms. Marvel #1, and of course She-Hulk #1. He may be more well known for his legendary runs on classic titles like Conan, Avengers, and FF. But his work on these late Bronze Age classics should not be overlooked. Congratulations on this incredible find.

When you brought this to one of the LA art shows I was surprised and very happy to see it out there in the world. Wasn't expecting the coloring job, but while it's different than the original it's pretty cool in its own way--Shulkie's green is so vibrant. Historic first issue and a great comic that still holds up--this initial version of the She-Hulk sure was angry (particularly as illustrated by Big John's always emotive pencilling) in a way that I imagine was pretty shocking to readers in 1979.

Iconically recognizable Buscema style for a Savage She-Hulk in the mode of an angry barbarian woman! The image is a stand out and truly a glorious fun 80's debut!

Wow -- that's amazing! Obviously we'd all prefer if the original had been left alone, but the coloring really does look great! Very interesting to hear that the background skyline was by Herb Trimpe. I never noticed that before. Let's just hope the She-Hulk TV series doesn't disappoint!

Well , stunning cover and key cover with the first She-Hulk edited image by the great JB...basically a historic piece , doesnt matter the Oliff color with this kind of art...congrats again and again and again and again !!! 😂
